Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday approved expansion plans for Lahore and Karachi airports, directing authorities to complete the projects within given timelines and in accordance with international standards.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, the PM stressed the need to improve passenger facilities, maintain construction quality, train airport staff and strengthen coordination among relevant agencies.
Officials informed the meeting that runway expansion at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport had been completed, while work on installing automated E-Gates at major airports was progressing. The Civil Aviation Authority has also made 14 airports operational over the past year to facilitate domestic flights.
The meeting was further briefed on the development of an Air Cargo Village in Karachi, the introduction of a Meet and Greet service at Islamabad International Airport, and enhanced passenger facilitation measures by the Federal Investigation Agency.
Work on upgrading an aviation institution in Hyderabad into an internationally standardised aviation university is expected to begin by February 2028.
