ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has begun consultation with Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif by suggesting to him through a letter three nominations each for the vacant posts of the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The letter written to PML-N president from the premier said that presently two vacancies in the ECP exist following the retirement of KP member Irshad Qaiser and Punjab member Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi in July this year.

“Article 213(2A) read with Article 218(2)(b) of the Constitution, inter alia, provide that the Prime Minister in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, shall forward three names for the appointment of a Member of the ECP to the Parliamentary Committee,” read the letter.

The premier has recommended the names of Ahsan Mahboob, a retired BS-22 officer of Police Service of Pakistan, Raja Amer Khan, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan and  Dr. Syed Pervaiz Abbas, a retired BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service.

For KP, the government has suggested the names of Justice (Retd) Ikramullah Khan, Faridullah Khan, a retired BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service and Muzammil Khan, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan

The prime minister has further urged the Opposition leader to submit his response at the earliest in order to proceed further in the matter.
