KARACHI – A police constable previously dismissed over bribery allegations is likely to be reinstated after reportedly playing a key role in tracing and arresting Anmol alias Pinky, sources said on Tuesday.
The sources familiar with the development said that the constable had earlier been removed from service following allegations of receiving bribes.
However, he was later assigned by senior officers to assist in locating the suspect and is said to have helped track her down within a week.
Police officials confirmed that Anmol alias Pinky was arrested from an apartment in Karachi’s Garden area last week in connection with allegations of running a drug network. Authorities claim that narcotics, weapons and other items worth approximately Rs1.5 million were recovered during the raid.
The suspect, however, has denied the allegations, stating that she was detained in Lahore around 15 days earlier and later shifted to Karachi.
Investigators allege that she was involved in operating a drug supply network in the city and is also facing charges related to a murder case. She remains in police custody on physical remand.
Sources further claimed that the arrested constable had previously been accused of facilitating the suspect and allegedly receiving large sums of money. He was dismissed from service following internal inquiries and confidential reports.
Despite his earlier dismissal, officials are now reportedly considering reinstating him in recognition of his role in the recent arrest.
Meanwhile, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has stated that further names may surface during ongoing investigations into the case. He added that a special task force is being formed and urged citizens to come forward with evidence in court.
In a related development, the South District and Sessions Court overturned a magistrate’s earlier ruling that had placed the suspect on judicial remand. The court observed that conflicting orders had created legal complications and declared the previous order void, directing that the accused be treated as being on physical remand until May 17.
