ISLAMABAD – Philippine Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez has said that the Embassy of the Philippines in Islamabad remains committed to further strengthening ties between the two countries and advancing a partnership that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of both peoples.
In his message on the occasion of the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, the ambassador extended greetings to the Filipino community in Pakistan, Pakistani friends, and all those marking the historic occasion. He said this year’s theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” (Freedom. Future. History.), reflects the journey of nations shaped by past sacrifices, present challenges, and future aspirations.
He said Philippine Independence Day is a reminder of the Filipino people’s long struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination, while paying tribute to the values of unity, resilience, democracy, justice, and public service.
Dr. Fernandez noted that the Philippines and Pakistan share similar historical experiences, as both emerged from periods of foreign rule and faced challenges in building independent states. He said independence remains an ongoing responsibility that requires strong institutions, rule of law, and continuous efforts toward development.
The ambassador emphasized shared values between the two nations, including national identity, cultural heritage, and aspirations for peace, dignity, and opportunity. He said these commonalities have helped strengthen friendly relations between Pakistan and the Philippines for more than seven decades.
He also highlighted the importance of mutual respect, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, warning against hatred, discrimination, and intolerance. He stressed that progress depends not only on economic development but also on strong institutions and protection of fundamental freedoms.
Referring to the recent earthquake in Mindanao, he expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and damage caused, and praised the resilience of the Filipino people and the efforts of responders and volunteers assisting affected communities.
Dr. Fernandez said the Philippines remains committed to inclusive development, regional cooperation, and expanding partnerships in trade, investment, agriculture, education, tourism, and cultural exchange.
He added that stronger collaboration between the Philippines and Pakistan can help promote shared prosperity and deepen people-to-people connections..
Concluding his message, the ambassador extended Independence Day greetings and expressed hope for continued friendship between the two nations, reaffirming shared values of freedom, dignity, and mutual respect.
