LAHORE – Members of the recently-constituted Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Punjab Healthcare Commission held their inaugural meeting at the PHC head office.
The TAC members unanimously elected president College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal as Convener of the Committee. He thanked all for posing trust in him, and vowed to meet the challenges to ensure patient safety and care.
On behalf of the Chairperson Board of Commissioners PHC, Member BoC Prof Dr Talat Afza chaired the meeting, and welcomed the TAC members. Chief Executive Officer PHC Dr Muhammad Saqib Aziz briefed the TAC members on the progress made by the Commission, and said that their recommendations regarding enforcement of the PHC’s regulatory framework were deemed of impactful significance. He also highlighted the importance of the TAC in strengthening PHC further. He gave a detailed overview of the Commission and highlighted its purview of its working. Director CG&OS Dr Mushtaq Ahmad explained the TAC’s role in the development of minimum service delivery standards, as a representative forum of the stakeholders.
As per the PHC Act 2010, the TAC consist of nominees from the federal councils like the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council, Pharmacy Council, National Councils for Homoeopathy and Tibb, CPSP, King Edward Medical University, University of Health Sciences, Punjab Assembly, Auditor General of Pakistan, Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, Mental Health Authority, Punjab Medical Faculty, district health authorities, representatives of the Pakistan Medical Association, international health experts and private sector health facilities.
