ISLAMABAD – The government jacked up the price of petrol by Rs4.61 per litre, pushing the fuel rate back above the Rs390 mark. Under the latest revision, petrol will now cost Rs393.75 per litre, compared with Rs389.14 previously.
Price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been axed by Rs1.96 per litre, bringing it down from Rs424.04 to Rs422.08 per litre. The revised rates take effect on September 22.
The latest move creates a mixed picture for motorists, with petrol users facing an immediate increase while diesel consumers receive limited relief. At the new rate, filling a 50-litre petrol tank will cost Rs230.50 more than before, while a 50-litre diesel purchase will be Rs98 cheaper.

The adjustment was made under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism following a review by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The Petroleum Division said international market developments, including changes in Platts prices, petroleum premiums and other incidental costs, were taken into account in determining the latest rates.
The increase comes only days after motorists had received a modest reduction in fuel prices. Petrol had been cut by Rs1.65 per litre, falling to Rs389.14, while HSD was reduced by 88 paisas to Rs424.04 for the September 19–21 period.
The latest increase has therefore erased the previous petrol relief and pushed the country’s most widely used transport fuel closer to the Rs400-per-litre barrier. Diesel, despite the latest cut, remains firmly above Rs420 per litre.
