ISLAMABAD – Pakistani motorists are set to get limited relief as the price of petrol has been slashed by Rs1.70 per litre, while Diesel has become Rs1.39 per litre more expensive under the latest petroleum price revision.
The new rates will come into effect from August 12, 2026, following OGRA’s revision of ex-depot petroleum prices under the federal government’s pricing mechanism. Petrol will now cost Rs. 325.92 per litre, down from Rs. 327.62, while HSD has climbed to Rs. 382.25 per litre from Rs. 380.86.

The petrol cut offers a modest breather for consumers, but the diesel hike could push up transportation and logistics costs, with commercial and heavy vehicles heavily dependent on HSD.
On Monday, the government kept petrol and high-speed diesel prices unchanged amid continued volatility in international oil markets, with the latest rates taking effect from August 11. Petrol will remain at Rs327.62 per litre, while HSD will continue to cost Rs380.86 per litre. The government is collecting Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 on diesel.
Fuel prices have seen dramatic swings since the US-Iran conflict intensified on February 28. HSD surged from Rs281 to a record Rs520.35 per litre by April 3, before falling back to the current Rs380.86. Petrol similarly jumped from Rs266 to Rs458.41 per litre during the same period.
Amid the international oil-price shock, Pakistan made plans for daily fuel-price adjustments, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) expected to determine rates according to global market movements. The All Pakistan Dealers Association has opposed the move and warned that it may consider protests.
The impact of fuel prices extends far beyond petrol pumps. Petrol is heavily used by motorcyclists, rickshaws, private vehicles and small transport, directly affecting middle- and lower-middle-income families. Diesel powers heavy transport, power plants and large generators, making its price crucial for transportation and energy costs.
