A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court for the inclusion of successful independent candidates in political parties.

Maulvi Iqbal Haider Advocate filed the petition in the Supreme Court.

It was requested in the petition that the independent candidates be ordered to join the political parties within three days. In case of not joining a political party, the seats of independent candidates should be declared vacant, requested in petition.

The plea taken in the petition is that in the elections of 2024, about 100 independent candidates have won the election. Independent candidates can vote of confidence and no confidence as per the Election Act. The petitioner took plea that if the successful candidates remain independent, their buying and selling process will start. There can be horse trading in the election of the PM and the Speaker of the National Assembly.

In order to prevent corrupt practices, it is mandatory that independent candidates should be part of a party, says text of petition. Due to remaining independent, MNAs will be deprived of even reserved seats, says petition.
