Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update; widespread rains, heavy falls expected

PESHAWAR – Widespread rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), depression lies over west of Madhya Pradsh (India) and surroundings and moving westwards. Due to this depression, strong monsoon currents penetrate southern parts of Pakistan and will likely penetrate upper parts from evening/night. A trough of westerly wave also prevails over upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, rains are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Orakzai, Hangu, Kurram, Bannu and Waziristan on Monday night. Heavy falls are expected at isolated places in upper districts.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, more intermittent rains are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan. Heavy falls may also occur at isolated places during the period.

Heavy rains may trigger landslides in Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla and Buner. Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Nowshera and Peshawar from 26th (night) to 30th August.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, hot and humid weather prevailed in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. However, isolated rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dera Ismail Khan remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C.

In Peshawar, maximum temperature was recorded at 38°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 46 per cent.
