Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather; heavy rains, snowfall expected

PESHAWAR – Widespread rains and isolated hailstorms with heavy snowfall over the mountains are likely for Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from February 29 to March 03 (Thursday-Sunday).

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of Pakistan on February 29. It may grip most parts of the country on March 01, and persist till March 02.

Under these conditions, heavy to extremely heavy widespread rains with windstorm/thunderstorm and heavy snowfall over the hills are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan from February 29 to March 03 (Thursday-Sunday). Isolated hailstorms are also likely during the period. Light rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in Swat, Shangla, Kohistan on Tuesday evening/night and Wednesday.

Heavy rains may cause flash flooding in hill torrents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 01-02. Heavy rain/snowfall may cause closure of roads in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad on March 01-02.

Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 06-08 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in most districts of the province during the last 24 hours. However, Parachinar received 17 mm and Mirkhani 02 mm rain.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the province where temperature dropped 07 C below freezing.

In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 08 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 58 per cent.
