Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday expressed concern over opening of government and private educational institutions in Gujrat despite increasing cases of coronavirus.

In a statement, the PA speaker said that educational institutions are closed across the country and same restrictions should also be implemented in Gujrat.

Pervaiz Elahi said, “Why can educational institutions not be closed when papers of Cambridge and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) have been postponed. Parents are protesting over the decision.

“The intensity of Covid-19 is increasing as the provinces had to seek Army’s services to implement the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs), and it is not a sane decision to open educational institutions.

“Who will be held responsible if children are affected?”
Meanwhile, PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi said that on one hand, educational institutions across the country are closed due to the threat of coronavirus and on the other hand, Cambridge exams have started from Monday.

“If these examinations can be postponed in other countries, why not in Pakistan keeping in view of the health and future of the children,” Moonis said.

It may be mentioned here that despite the opposition from students and activists for the cancellation of CAIE exams amid a current wave of coronavirus.

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood said that these are tough times and difficult decisions have been made keeping the student’s best interest in view.
