The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has signed a contract for the comprehensive reconstruction of Jinnah International Airport’s (JIAP) main runway (07L/25R). The agreement was formalized in a ceremony at the PCAA Headquarters, attended by the Director of Planning and Development, PCAA, and the Director of Umar Jan and Company. The reconstruction project, set to commence soon after Eid, aims to significantly upgrade the airport’s airside infrastructure. Key improvements will enable the seamless accommodation of wide-body aircraft up to category 4F, including the Airbus A380. This initiative will enhance safety, reliability, and the capacity to handle the increasing passenger and aircraft traffic, making JIAP a more attractive hub for both domestic and international airlines. Upon completion, the upgraded runway will feature the latest energy-efficient LED CAT-I Airfield Lighting System with Runway Centreline Lights. Additionally, the project includes extending the runway by 1,000 feet, bringing the total length to 11,500 feet. Other enhancements include the reconstruction of taxiways and overruns at both ends, an asphaltic overlay of four taxi links near the 07L end, and the installation of a control and monitoring system for the new LED CAT-I AFL System in the control tower. This comprehensive upgrade is expected to provide significant advantages, bolstering JIAP’s capacity to support growing aviation demands and ensuring state-of-the-art operational capabilities.
