Some residents of Parwan are calling on the authorities to resume the unfinished construction of the province’s 200-bed public hospital.

They state that the 100-bed hospital in Parwan does not meet the needs of all the patients in the province and currently faces challenges.

Musa, a resident of Parwan, said: “Our hospital’s capacity is low, and patients are not properly attended to. We want the unfinished 200-bed hospital to be completed.”

Hamid, another resident of Parwan, said: “Parwan’s hospital does not have enough capacity, and many patients visit it.”

Nine years after the construction of the 200-bed public hospital in Parwan began, the project remains incomplete.

The foundation stone of this hospital was laid in 1394 (solar year) at a cost of over 5 million by the previous government, but it was halted for unknown reasons.

However, local officials in Parwan say they have recently shared their proposals with the Ministry of Public Health to restart the hospital’s construction.

Mohammad Idris Anwari, Deputy Governor of Parwan, said: “We have proposed to high-ranking officials to complete the remaining work of the 200-bed public hospital in Parwan so that it can be operational and usable as soon as possible.”

Hedayatullah Azam, Director of Public Health in Parwan, said: “We have shared the issue of the hospital’s construction with the authorities and hope the building work will begin, and the people’s problems will be solved.”

Meanwhile, a health aid organization in Parwan has built a medicine storage facility to treat people collectively during significant incidents. This facility can treat up to 1,000 people at a time.

Riaz-ul-Haq Naderi, a representative of the aid organization in Parwan, said: “Our focus is on responding to emergencies through medicine and transport support.”

Abdullah Afghanmal, Deputy Director of Public Health in Parwan, said: “It can treat 1,000 people at one time.”

According to public health officials in Parwan, about 35 health centers in the province do not have standard buildings and operate in rented houses.

For the first time in Kunar, surgeries for the gallbladder, bladder, and kidneys are being performed at the provincial hospital in Kunar.

The hospital officials said that previously patients had to go to Nangarhar regional hospital for the treatment of such diseases.

Rafiullah Amin, the head of the surgery department at Kunar provincial hospital, said: “Previously, there were many patients with gallstones, kidney stones, and bladder stones, and these surgeries were not performed at the provincial hospital. Patients were sent to Nangarhar regional hospital. Now, patients from Nooristan province also come to this hospital. We have many patients, and we schedule them and operate on them in turn.”

“We have a list for treatment, and every individual who comes to us for the treatment of bladder, kidney, and gallbladder stones is given an appointment and, God willing, they are operated on according to their turn,” said Mula Dad, the head of Kunar provincial hospital.

According to the officials of Kunar provincial hospital, in the past month, surgeries for 25 bladder and kidney patients have been successfully performed.

Roohullah, a resident of Asadabad city, the center of Kunar, said that his wife had been suffering from gallbladder disease for a year, and after surgery at the Kunar provincial hospital, her health condition is improving.

“She had stones in her gallbladder. I took my wife to many hospitals for treatment and finally learned that she could be treated at this hospital. I brought her here,” Roohullah, the patient’s caretaker, told TOLOnews.

Although some patients and their caretakers consider the start of major surgeries at Kunar provincial hospital a positive step, they are requesting an increase in beds for patients.

“People’s request is that more departments be created here for the treatment of patients,” said Abdul Tawab Zaman, a caretaker.

“The facility is good because previously people used to spend a lot of money and go to Pakistan,” said Abdullah, another caretaker.

According to the information provided by the officials of Kunar provincial hospital, around 1,500 patients visit this hospital daily for treatment, and in the past month 450 major and minor surgeries have also been performed at this hospital.—Tolonews
