A local court in Lahore on Saturday decided to extend the two-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the illegal appointments case.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Lahore brought PTI President PervaizElahi before a local court, seeking his physical remand in the Punjab Assembly appointments case. The ACE officials asked the court to allow further physical remand of Chaudhary Parvez Elahi.

During the hearing, Pervaiz Elahi’s counsel argued that as per a preliminary information, the anti-corruption team took Elahi to his residence, and he had his bedroom searched extensively, recovering an amount of 4.1 million rupees.

He argued that there was no mention of specific time regarding departure of the officials from the office and nor any police station was mentioned there.

Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid granted approval to the ACE’s request, extending Elahi’s remand for an additional two days.

Earlier in the week, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, was placed under the custody of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). The Lahore ACE subsequently submitted a request to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) situated in Islamabad, seeking a brief remand for the PTI President of Punjab.

Chaudhary Parvez Elahi took to the rostrum and opposed what the ACE officials said about him.

“I didn’t take a single rupee; I don’t know from where they have brought this recovery,” said Chaudhary Parvez Elahi while denying the charges of corruption against him.

He said, “I have spent my entire life working for Allah’s pleasure. I have served the people. It’s not the kind of service Shahbaz Sharif provided. No one came to me last night, and I don’t know where this recovery has come from,”.

He was of the view, “I was asleep all night, and I only found out about this recovery after they brought it here. They are concocting these allegations as part of their political agenda, and I have held the most job positions,”.
