The KDA Park in Clifton Block 2 has become a graveyard for the government vehicles bought from the taxpayers’ money. Around 200 vehicles of various departments of Sindh government, worth billions of rupees, parked under the open sky, are gathering dust and rust. Left at the mercy of scavengers, there is only one watchman to guard the parking area which has now become a junkyard. Thieves have taken out panels, bateries, and other expensive parts from many vehicles.

A survey by media team revealed that official vehicles left to rot in the plot include various models of Suzuki Mehran, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, BMW, Land Cruiser and Prado. Sources say that most of the vehicles rotting under the open sky in the hot sun belong to the Services and General Administration department (S&GAD) and the rest to the education, health, local government and works and services departments.

Sources further said that no proper record of the valuable government vehicles have been maintained for many years. The smaller vehicles were purchased years ago as part of the austerity measures of the past governments. However, the bureaucrats refused to ride in the 800cc hatchbacks and the vehicles ended up at the dump.

Many other vehicles were lying there because the officers concerned did not like the official vehicle assigned to them and it was returned the S&GAD and from there to the dump. While the government sector trashes vehicles worth millions of rupees with not no remorse, citizen maintain and keep running 10 to 20 years old cars in immaculate condition.
