WASHINGTON – United States President Donald Trump confirmed that representatives from Pakistan will visit United States next week to negotiate tariff-related issues, amid tensions related to massive import duties.

Pakistan faces a possible 29% tariff on its exports to America amid $3 billion trade surplus, after Washington’s recent announcement of global tariffs targeting multiple countries. The move is part of broader efforts by the US to address trade imbalances.

Highlighting recent diplomacy amid standoff, President Trump praised ongoing trade discussions with both Pakistan and India, saying the talks have played a critical role in preventing a potential nuclear conflict between the two South Asian neighbors. “Instead of bullets, we’re using trade to keep peace,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews.

The two nuclear-armed rivals recently engaged in their worst clashes in decades, involving fighter jets, missiles, drones, and artillery over four days. Trump made clear that any outbreak of war between India and Pakistan would halt trade negotiations.

Indian officials lately visited Washington to advance trade talks, aiming for an interim agreement by early July. India currently faces 26% tariffs on goods exported to the US.

Reports indicate New Delhi may open contracts worth over $50 billion to U.S. companies, mostly in the government sector, as part of ongoing trade discussions.

As Pakistan’s delegation prepares to arrive, all eyes remain on the potential outcomes of these critical negotiations amid heightened geopolitical tensions and shifting trade policies.
