Pakistan has reported a new polio case in Karachi East district, Sindh, taking the country’s total number of cases in 2026 to seven, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
Of the seven cases recorded this year, five have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two in Sindh. The last polio case in Karachi was reported in December 2024.
The National EOC said polio is an incurable disease but can be prevented through vaccination, urging parents to ensure their children receive polio drops during every immunisation campaign and complete their routine vaccination schedule on time.
A sub-national polio vaccination campaign will run from November 2 to 8, 2026, covering 97 districts across Pakistan, including all districts of Karachi. More than 23.9 million children under the age of five are expected to receive polio vaccine doses during the campaign.
The National EOC has called on parents and all segments of society to support vaccination efforts and help eradicate polio from the country.
