PESHAWAR – Pakistan’s first three-star female general Lieutenant General retired Nigar Johar added another feather to her cap as she was honored with third Bint-e-Hawa Achievement Award 2024.
Lieutenant General (r) Nigar Johar was presented award at a ceremony hosted by Bint-e-Hawa Forum (BHF) in Peshawar to recognise her outstanding achievements.
A ceremony hosted by Bint-e-Hawa Forum in KP capital recognized the outstanding achievements of Lt Gen (r) Nigar and other women who excelled in different fields. At least 35 awards were distributed in ten categories to honor the individuals in multiple contributions.
Those who received lifetime achievement records include Shabina Ayaz and Tabassum Adnan. In the Healthcare and Social Work category, Dr. Tahira Nishtar, Dr. Nazli, Hasina Zahoor, and Ms. Mahvesh Ali Khan were recognized. Qurat-ul-Ain, Fanagis Azim, Sidra Farooqi, and Saima Mehboob were acknowledged in the Women Empowerment and Entrepreneurship category. Salma Marwat, Mahnoor Ali, Hadi Kamal, and Husna were celebrated for their achievements in the Sports category. Meena Shams, Nadia Saboohi, Muskan Safi, Wagma Feroz, and Khalida Niaz were honored in the Journalism and Freelancing category. Dr. Shahida Sardar, Malghalara Bakhtiar, and Ms. Bushra Ahmad received recognition in the Education and Literature category.
Nigar Johar
Lieutenant General Nigar Johar Khan HI(M) TI(M) is a retired three-star general in Pakistan Army, she made history as first and only woman in Pakistan Army to achieve rank of lieutenant general and third to reach the rank of major general.
Nigar belonged to Pakistan Army Medical Corps and served as the surgeon general of the Pakistan Army and Colonel commandant of the Army Medical Corps.
She got early education in Panjpir village in Swabi District and lost both her parents and two younger sisters in a car accident, with only her brother surviving. Her husband, Johar, an engineer in the military, also passed away before her retirement.
Nigar got early education at Convent Girls High School, Rawalpindi, graduating from the Army Medical College (AMC) in 1985, and obtaining Master of Public Health degree from the Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute in 2015. She has also completed various other qualifications and courses in medical administration.
She made history as the Surgeon General of the Pakistan Army in June 2020, serving as the deputy commandant of the Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi in 2015, and being among the 37 brigadiers promoted to the rank of major general. She was recognized for her service with several awards and decorations, including the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military).
