Pakistanis Living In Rented Houses Can Now Update Nadra Address Check Requirements

ISLAMABAD – Pakistanis living in rented houses can update their current residential addresses in NADRA records by submitting the required documents, offering relief to people who relocate to other cities for jobs, businesses or other personal reasons.

The facility allows tenants to register their present or temporary addresses through NADRA Registration Centres or the PakID mobile application, subject to the applicable verification requirements.

The process is important for people who move frequently but need to keep their official identity records updated for banking, voting and other government and private services.

Documents Required to Change Your NADRA Address?

According to the applicable NADRA registration requirements, applicants can provide different documents depending on whether they want to update their temporary or permanent residential address.

For a temporary or current address, these are documents you need

  • CNIC belonging to blood relative or spouse registered at the same address.
  • A computerised electricity, gas or water bill issued in the name of the applicant, their parents or spouse.
  • Property ownership documents.
  • A verified domicile, local certificate or Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC).
  • A notarised rent deed or affidavit involving the landlord.
  • A housing society or government allotment letter.
  • A resident certificate issued by a Union Council in Sindh, where applicable.

These documents help establish a person’s current place of residence and can be particularly useful for tenants who do not own the property in which they live.

An affidavit from the landlord may also be accepted. Recent NADRA guidance has highlighted the importance of keeping a rental agreement and an electricity bill available when applying to register a present address. Applicants should ensure that their documents are complete and clearly establish their connection with the property.

While registering a temporary address can be relatively straightforward, applicants seeking to register a rented property as their permanent address may need to submit additional documentation.

Depending on the case, the required documents may include:

  • A CNIC belonging to an eligible blood relative or spouse registered at the same address.
  • A utility bill in the name of the applicant or their parents.
  • Property ownership documents.
  • Domicile or other relevant residence certificates.
  • The landlord’s affidavit, the landlord’s CNIC and original property documents when registering a rented house as a permanent address.

NADRA’s requirements distinguish between temporary and permanent addresses, so applicants should confirm which documents apply to their particular circumstances before submitting an application.

How to Change Your NADRA Address

Citizens can apply through a nearby NADRA Registration Centre or use the PakID mobile application.

Applicants visiting a registration centre should take their original CNIC and the supporting documents required for the address change. Biometric verification is mandatory, while documents are scanned during the process and returned to the applicant.

Those applying through PakID can upload the necessary documents and submit their requests online. However, some applications may still require a visit to a NADRA centre for additional verification.

NADRA Address Change Fee in Pakistan

The estimated fees for modifying a CNIC, including an address change, are as follows:

  • Normal: Rs400
  • Urgent: Rs1,150
  • Executive: Rs2,150

These amounts are approximate and should not be treated as confirmed current rates. Applicants should check the latest charges through NADRA’s official channels or the PakID application before submitting their requests.

Address modification applications are generally processed within a few days to approximately one week, although the actual processing time may vary depending on the application and verification requirements.

Once processed, the updated identity card may be delivered by courier or collected from the relevant NADRA centre, depending on the selected service and applicable arrangements.

Citizens are advised to verify the latest documentation requirements before visiting a registration centre, particularly if they intend to register a rented property as their permanent address.
