Pakistani Students Triumph Over Indian Delegation At Oxford Union Debate

Pakistani students achieved a remarkable victory at the Oxford Union debate, defeating the Indian delegation by a significant majority.

The debate centered around the motion: “India’s Pakistan policy is essentially a strategy of inflaming public sentiment, presented as a security policy.”

Initially, India had appointed prominent figures such as General Nirwa, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, and Sachin Pilot to represent their side in the debate. However, all three declined to participate, prompting India to send a relatively lower-profile panel consisting of J Sai Deepak, Pandit Satish Sharma, and Devarchan Banerjee.

In contrast, Pakistan made the strategic decision not to send senior representatives, instead confidently allowing Oxford students—Musa Haraj, Asrar Khan Kakar, and Ahmed Nawaz Khan—to represent the country. The trio, all studying at Oxford, delivered strong, well-researched arguments during the debate.

During the session, the Pakistani team effectively challenged the Indian narrative, presenting a compelling case based on logic, law, and statistics. The result was a resounding victory for the Pakistani side, winning by a two-thirds majority, despite the fact that the Oxford Union has a higher number of Indian members.

Experts have lauded this achievement, highlighting that the success of Pakistani students on such a prestigious global platform is proof that Pakistan’s narrative is stronger and more credible when backed by facts and logical argumentation.

The decision of Indian high-level speakers to withdraw and the subsequent defeat of their secondary panel also exposed weaknesses in India’s intellectual stance on the issue.
