PESHAWAR – A court in northwestern Pakistan handed down capital punishment to a man for posting blasphemous posts online.
A report shared by Express News said special anti-terrorism court in KP capital awarded death sentence to Khalid – a resident of Bannu – who was found guilty of committing blasphemy.
The prosecution accused =national of sharing derogatory content on social media, which sparked outrage in parts of the country.
Later, Counter-Terrorism Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) started manhunt and apprehended him from Bannu – a city located on the Kurram River in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
After completing a detailed probe, it led to trial held in Central Jail Peshawar, where the statements of both the accused and witnesses were recorded.
After multiple court proceedings, ATC issued its verdict, sentencing Khalid to life imprisonment in one case and to death under the blasphemy law. This ruling highlights the ongoing sensitivity surrounding blasphemy charges in Pakistan, which often result in mob lynching.
