LAHORE – Midfielder Adil Nabi’s pursuit of obtaining a Pakistani passport while playing for football club Doxa Katokopias has hit a snag due to ongoing challenges at the Pakistani consulate in Birmingham.
Nabi, amidst organizational and machinery issues at the consulate, faced setbacks in finalizing his application despite his persistent efforts.
The British-born Pakistani made the journey from Cyprus to Birmingham to pursue his Pakistani passport, a process he has been actively engaged in since the previous year.
Having submitted his verification documents, Nabi awaited scrutiny and verification by the authorities concerned.
Subsequently, his documents were returned to the consulate in Birmingham after the completion of the verification process.
Initiating the visa application process from the Birmingham consulate, the 29-year-old temporarily left the league in Cyprus to comply with consulate requirements, where he initially submitted his verification documents.
As a graduate of the West Bromwich Albion Academy, Nabi’s visit to the consulate aimed at applying for his passport, but the process encountered delays without any specified timeframe.
The sources said that operational issues, including malfunctioning machinery, hindered the consulate’s ability to process applications efficiently.
With only six matches remaining in the Cypriot First Division, Nabi’s team, Doxa FC, faces relegation to the second tier, currently languishing at the bottom of the table, trailing by five points from safety.
