Pakistan, UK important partners: CM Discuses issues with UK’s Minister of State for South Asia & Commonwealth Lord

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday said that Pakistan and UK are important partners in the journey of development and the Punjab government appreciate UK’s cooperation in improving the social sector.

“The Punjab government has started a universal health insurance programme to provide universal health coverage to every citizen by the end of this year.”

Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar was talking to Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon who called on the CM at his office and discussed matters of mutual interests. UK High Commissioner Christian Turner was also present.

Lord Tariq Ahmad appreciated the steps taken by the Punjab CM to address the environmental degradation and the adoption of zigzag technology.

He also appreciated the Punjab government’s steps for overcoming the corona pandemic and said the provincial government has adopted environment-friendly policies, adding that the government’s anti-corona steps are praiseworthy.

“Splendid work has been executed in the health sector and the UK will continue its cooperation with the Punjab government in health, education, tourism and other sectors,” the honourable guest pledged.

On the occasion, the chief minister said the Corona positivity ratio has come down drastically due to the effective measures taken by the government and the process of vaccination has been initiated to protect very citizens against the virus.

Usman Buzdar informed that the government has planned to ply electric buses under the Punjab Green Development programme.

“The scope of Rescue-1122 has been expanded to tehsils level, adding that the Punjab government is planning introduction of air ambulance”, the CM pointed out.

CM Buzdar said that tremendous work has been done for the promotion of tourism as Punjab has a lot of potential for religious tourism.

The religious minorities enjoy equal rights and Punjab is willing to further promote its ties with the UK in different sectors, he further said. The CM also presented a gift of traditional stick to Lord Tariq Ahmad.

Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Law and Cooperatives Ministers Raja Basharat, Dr Yasmin Rashid, chairman P&D, CEO PBIT and others were also present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, MPAs – Ayesha Nawaz and Syed Iftikhar Hassan Gillani met with Chief Minister Usman Buzdar at his office and thanked him for allocating a huge amount of money for district development package to ensure composite development of all the areas in the province.

The CM said Rs560 billion has been earmarked for the development program adding that the budgetary targets will strengthen the provincial economy.

Meanwhile, the opposition’s approach is irresponsible as it is criticising the budget without going through the details, he regretted.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the death of three students in a road accident in Layyah and extended sympathies to the bereaved heirs.

The CM has sought a report from the DPO and directed to arrest the accused driver for legal action.
