LAHORE – Pakistan thrashed South Africa by nine wickets in the second T20I at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Friday to level the series 1-1.
Chasing a modest 111-run target for victory, Pakistan crossed the finish line with nine wickets in hand and 41 balls remaining.
Saim Ayub was the top scorer with 71 off 38 balls, hitting six fours and five maximums. Sahibzada Farhan made 28 off 23 balls, laced with three huge sixes.
Babar Azam contributed unbeaten 11 off 18 balls with the help of one four. During the process, he surpassed Rohit Sharma to become the highest run scorer in T20Is.
Corbin Bosch took the only wicket fallen in the innings. Salman Mirza was named player of the match for his outstanding show with the ball.
Put into bat first, South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for 110 in 19.2 overs.
Dewald Brevis was the highest scorer with 25 runs off 16 balls, followed by skipper Donovan Ferreira, who contributed 15 off 15 balls. Ottneil Baartman made 12 off 19 balls and Corbin Bosch 11 off 12 balls. No other batter could enter the double figures.
Faheem Ashraf took four wickets, Salman Mirza three and Naseem Shah two, while Abrar Ahmed got one wicket.
South Africa won the first T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium by 55 runs.
