Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently met with Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev to discuss strengthening ties in various sectors. The meeting, which included Russian Consul General Andrey V. Fedorov, Third Secretary Pavel Imanov, and Ekaterina Zgich, focused on enhancing collaboration in health, education, and culture. Sindh’s Secretary Abdul Rahim Shaikh was also present.
The Chief Minister highlighted Russia’s historical contribution, recalling how a steel mill was established in Karachi during Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s era. He expressed a desire to revive the steel mill, requesting assistance from the Russian embassy. Ambassador Albert Khorev assured that an online discussion would take place next week between Pakistani and Russian experts to explore restoration plans, with a Russian delegation set to visit the site following these talks.
Chief Minister Shah proposed the construction of a new plant for the steel mill, noting that it would bolster the economy and create jobs, especially benefiting mill employees who have faced hardships. “The steel mill is a gift from Shaheed Bhutto to the people of Sindh, and we are committed to making it operational,” he stated. Both sides also agreed to expand bilateral trade and discussed the introduction of Russian electric buses in Karachi. Ambassador Albert Khorev shared Russia’s interest in establishing a cultural center in Sindh to promote heritage, with the Sindh Culture Department coordinating with the Russian cultural attaché. Chief Minister Shah agreed to facilitate discussions with Russian companies through diplomatic channels to advance collaboration in these areas.
