ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Somalia have taken another step towards strengthening their defence partnership, with top military and government officials holding high-level talks at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The discussions centered on regional security, defence cooperation, and expanding military collaboration, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to closer strategic ties.
Both sides pledged to deepen defence and security cooperation after a high-level Somali delegation, led by Defence Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held strategic talks with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The meeting focused on the evolving regional security landscape, issues of mutual interest, and ways to broaden bilateral military collaboration. Both sides explored measures to enhance defence cooperation, expand military-to-military engagement, and strengthen capacity-building initiatives aimed at tackling shared security challenges.

During the discussions, the Somali defence minister praised Pakistan’s continued support for Somalia and commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism and contribution to regional peace and stability.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening defence ties with Somalia, reiterating Islamabad’s support for building Somalia’s security capabilities and promoting sustainable peace and long-term regional stability.
