Pakistan reach 88/3 as South Africa take control of Boxing Day Test

CENTURION – Pakistan reached 88/3 at Stumps on Day Two of Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.

Pakistan are still trail by two runs with seven wickets in hand as Babar Azam (16) and Saud Shakeel (8) will resume batting on Day Three of the Test on Saturday (tomorrow).

Starting second inning with a 90-run deficit, skipper Shan Masood (28) and Saim Ayub (28) provided a good start with a solid 49-run opening partnership. After the fall of both the openers, Kamran Ghulam (4) also went cheaply.

Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel were batting when the bad light caused early ending the day’s play. Marco Jansen took two wickets while Kagiso Rabada send one batter back to the pavilion.

Earlier, resuming batting at overnight score of 88/3, South Africa lost skipper Temba Bavuma (31) at 136. Aidan Markaram (89) and David Bedingham (30) put on 42 runs together to take the team score to 178. Debutant Corbin Bosch (81) and the tail put on a good show to help the team reached 301, taking 90-run first innings lead.

Naseem Shah and Khurram Shehzad bagged three wickets each and Aamer Jamal two while Saim Ayub and Mohammad Abbas took one wicket each.

Pakistan playing XI: Shan Masood (c), Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Aamir Jamal, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas.

South Africa playing XI: Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Temba Bavuma (C), David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Corbin Bosch.
