ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in the global digital sector by securing first position in an international IT skills ranking, surpassing more than 70 countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The achievement showed the country’s rapid progress in digital education, workforce development, and technology-based training initiatives. It is being viewed as a significant indicator of Pakistan’s growing presence in the global information technology market.
The officials said the success is the result of sustained efforts to expand IT education and professional training across the country. Key initiatives include the establishment of software technology parks and partnerships with international certification and training programmes, which have helped strengthen technical skill development among the youth.
A large number of training centres have also been set up in different regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, enabling students and young professionals to access modern IT education and globally recognized certifications.
These programmes have reportedly trained thousands of individuals in areas such as software development, networking, and digital freelancing skills. As a result, a growing number of young Pakistanis are now participating in the global freelance economy and securing remote employment opportunities with international companies.
The experts believed the ranking reflects the expansion of Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and improving competitiveness in the technology sector. They say the country’s youth-driven workforce, combined with increasing access to online platforms and skill-based learning, is helping reshape Pakistan’s position in the global IT landscape.
Technology analysts added that Pakistan’s performance highlights strong potential for innovation, startup growth, and export of IT services. However, they also stress the need for continued investment in infrastructure, advanced training, and research to sustain this momentum.
They further said that with consistent policy support and skill development initiatives, Pakistan can strengthen its role in the global digital economy and further enhance its international ranking in the coming years.
