Pakistan Posts 328m Current Account Deficit In July 2026

Pakistan posted $328 million current account deficit in July 2026, down from $814 million in June and from $529 million in the same month a year earlier.

According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday, the improvement in July was largely driven by stronger exports.

Goods exports rose 17% month-on-month and 9% year-on-year to $3 billion, their highest monthly level in 19 months. Imports, meanwhile, remained relatively unchanged from June at around $6.2 billion.
“While the current account stayed in deficit, the gap narrowed considerably compared with both the previous month and the same period last year,” Topline Research said in a statement.

For FY26, Pakistan posted a modest current account deficit of $139 million, compared with a surplus of $1.84 billion in FY25.

Despite achieving record-high workers’ remittances, the country’s external balance slipped into deficit as strong import demand outpaced exports, which showed limited growth during the fiscal year.
