Pakistan Observer playing role of bridge between chambers and business community: LCCI President

President LCCI pays homage to late Zahid Malik (SI); Faisal Zahid Malik lauds the services of LCCI

Chairman and Editor in Chief, Pakistan Observer, Faisal Zahid Malik on Wednesday met with the President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Faheem Rehman Sehgal at later’s office. In the meeting Senior Vice President, Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Vice Presidents Khurram Lodhi and Mian Anjum Nisar former LCCI President were also present.

In the meeting Faheem Sehgal paid homage to late Zahid Malik (SI) the founder Chief Editor Pakistan Observer. He said that Zahid Malik was not only a seasoned journalist but also a patriotic Pakistani. He introduced fair journalism and served humanity through truth.

The President Sehgal said that Pakistan Observer is playing important role for the betterment of businessmen, industry and economy. He said that Honorable Faisal Zahid Malik who is also Chairman Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce’s central Executive Committee on media is playing role of bridge between chambers and business community.

Talking about the current business scenario, the president said that in Lahore traders have expressed serious concerns over the government’s proposed Lahar Project, which involves the demolition of Circular Road and adjacent markets.

The business community criticized the decision, stating that no consultation with stakeholders was conducted prior to the announcement. He said that a large delegation representing over fifteen markets, including Circular Road, Sarai Sultan, and Shaheed Ganj, visited the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to raise their concerns. During the meeting with Lahore Chamber President Faheem Rehman Sehgal, the traders highlighted the potential impact of the project on their livelihoods and expressed strong reservations.

President Faheem Rehman Sehgal stated that the decision to demolish Circular Road and its adjoining markets was unilateral and made without consultation with the traders. He said that the Lahore Chamber would form a special committee, including representatives from all affected markets, to formally negotiate with the government.

He emphasized that the livelihoods of millions of families depend on these markets and that unemployment has already reached alarming levels. He added that the Lahore Chamber would raise this issue on every available platform until a solution is reached.

SAARC Chamber Vice President Mian Anjum Nisar urged that such actions should not harm people’s livelihoods, calling the operations carried out by PERA “uncivilized” and warning that traders’ rights would not be compromised.

He stressed solidarity with the affected business community. Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh urged the government to focus on reducing, not increasing, traders’ problems. On arrival his, Mr. Segal presented bouqet to Chairman Pakistan Observer, Faisal Zahid Malik and on departure a Shield was conferred on him.

activities. He further said that Pakistan Observer will continue to address the problems of the

traders for the welfare of the community.
