The President remarked that the Pakistan Observer has consistently upheld standards of accuracy and integrity, and we deeply value its role in informing the public.

The Chief Editor, Faisal Zahid Malik in return, commended the Bank of Punjab for its progressive initiatives, customer-centric reforms, and expanding footprint across the country. He particularly lauded the President’s leadership in steering the bank toward modernization, digital expansion, and improved access to finance for underserved communities.

They emphasized the need for clear communication on banking reforms, digital banking security, and financial literacy to empower citizens to make informed decisions.

The conversation also touched upon Pakistan’s evolving economic landscape, the challenges facing the banking sector, and the potential for responsible media coverage to support public confidence. Both leaders agreed that fostering transparency, trust, and informed dialogue is essential for strengthening Pakistan’s financial ecosystem.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both the Chief Editor and the BOP President expressing their desire to continue constructive engagement. It is worth mentioning here that The Bank of Punjab (BOP) has made significant strides in both growth and recognition. In 2023, it recorded a 50% increase in total assets, reaching a balance sheet size of Rs 2.2 trillion, while deposits grew 24% to Rs 1.5 trillion, and it posted an after-tax profit of Rs 11.3 billion.

On the awards front, BOP has earned both local and global acclaim. It won the “EFP Disability Inclusion Excellence Award” in 2023 for promoting a workplace of inclusivity.

It was also named Employer of Choice at the Gender Diversity Awards 2023 — notably the only public-sector institution in Pakistan’s top ten firms to receive award.

On environmental and equality measures, BOP landed top spot on the State Bank of Pakistan’s “Banking on Equality” rating.

In the SME (small and medium enterprise) space, BOP clinched the prestigious “Best SME Bank in Pakistan” title at the Global SME Banking Innovation Awards 2024, thanks to its digital lending portal, regression-based credit scorecards, and inclusion of women-led businesses.

Other honors include being declared Corporate Finance House of the Year by CFA Society Pakistan for its investment banking work.

And on the global payments side, J.P. Morgan recognized BOP for operational excellence by awarding it for straight-through processing of USD and Euro cross-border payments.

These achievements highlight BOP’s commitment to financial inclusivity, innovation, and strong corporate governance.
