Pakistan on Wednesday introduced cashless payment facilities at passport offices nationwide, marking a major step toward modernising public services.
In a post on X, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said citizens applying for passports will no longer have to endure lengthy queues or spend hours waiting to make payments.

He noted that the initiative was launched under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and credited his team for successfully implementing the reform.
Naqvi said the move is part of broader efforts to make government services quicker, more transparent, and more convenient for the public. He stated that more improvements are in the pipeline and expressed confidence that additional milestones will be achieved in the future. He also praised the passport department staff for their work in completing the initiative.
Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa recently revealed a large-scale digital transformation plan aimed at improving passport services and curbing illegal practices.
As part of the initiative, authorities are preparing to launch a passport mobile application that will allow citizens to apply for new passports, renew existing ones, monitor application status, and access related services directly from their smartphones. Officials are also working on a home delivery system, enabling applicants to receive passports at their homes and reducing the need for multiple visits to passport offices.
