Pakistan, Kuwait discuss strategic fuel storage, refining collaboration

Pakistan and Kuwait on Tuesday agreed to explore fresh avenues for cooperation in Pakistan’s petroleum and energy sectors, including the development of strategic fuel storage facilities and enhanced collaboration in refining projects.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi.

According to a statement issued by the Petroleum Division, both sides reviewed regional developments and discussed ways to deepen bilateral energy cooperation. They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and broadening partnerships in sectors of mutual interest.

Malik thanked the Kuwaiti government for its support in facilitating the safe arrival of the vessel Khairpur, which delivered fuel supplies to Pakistan during a difficult period marked by disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that the ship carried around 45,000 tonnes of diesel and 10,000 tonnes of jet fuel from Kuwait under special approvals granted amid the supply crisis.

The minister said the vessel successfully reached Pakistan through the coordinated efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, helping maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies and meet the country’s energy requirements.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, stressing that the effects of the ongoing Middle East conflict were being felt far beyond the region itself.

Almutairi praised Pakistan’s peace efforts and encouraged Islamabad to continue playing a constructive role in promoting regional stability. He added that Pakistan’s responsible approach had enhanced its standing internationally, saying the country was now being viewed with renewed respect in the global community.
