Pakistan has joined hands with Indonesia to promote the development of SMEs.
SMEDA Pakistan and SMESCO Indonesia signed the MoU at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday in the presence of PM Shahbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

The MoU aims to enhance collaboration in areas such as technology transfer, capacity building, market access, export promotion, and joint initiatives for innovation and entrepreneurship. It provides a framework for both parties to share best practices, support SMEs in entering global value chains, and strengthen institutional partnerships to boost trade and investment between Pakistan and Indonesia.
Shahbaz Sharif emphasised that “SMEs are the backbone of economic growth and employment. This collaboration with Indonesia will open new avenues for Pakistani SMEs, fostering innovation, competitiveness, and regional economic integration.”
Haroon Akhtar highlighted that “this MoU is a testament to Pakistan’s vision of strengthening SME-led economic growth. By partnering with Indonesia, we aim to create sustainable opportunities for SMEs and enhance trade between our nations.
Acting CEO of SMEDA, Nadia Jahangir Seth, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to facilitating SME internationalisation by providing technical assistance, capacity-building programs, and market linkage support to ensure SMEs fully benefit from cross-border opportunities.
This collaboration reflects the shared vision of both governments to empower SMEs as drivers of economic growth, innovation, and employment while promoting stronger bilateral trade and investment ties.
