ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party PPP and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) agreed on a shared draft of proposed constitutional amendments, including an extension of Chief Justice, Bilawal announced late Tuesday.
Initially, three drafts were being developed by the government, PPP, and JUI-F. A committee led by PPP’s Khursheed Shah was formed to facilitate discussions among lawmakers, especially after recent tensions involving PTI members.
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman noted that there is significant agreement among the drafts and that proposals infringing on fundamental rights would be rejected. Following a meeting in Karachi, Fazl and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced their consensus and emphasized the need for broader agreement, including discussions with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and PTI leadership. Both leaders expressed the goal of creating a universally accepted constitutional amendment.
