ISLAMABAD – The federal cabinet has officially approved a ferry service linking Gwadar, Pakistan, to Oman, marking a significant step towards enhanced bilateral trade and investment in the region.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mohammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, confirmed that the cabinet has given the green light for the service. The two countries will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the ferry link.
A high-level Omani delegation is expected to visit Pakistan soon to finalize arrangements for the service’s launch. The new ferry route is expected to increase trade volume between the two nations, create new investment opportunities, and improve connectivity for the Pakistani diaspora.
Chaudhry emphasized that the service would not only ease travel for Pakistani expatriates but also promote tourism, cultural exchange, and foster closer ties between the two nations. Additionally, the ferry service is anticipated to enhance regional connectivity by facilitating better access for other countries to Central Asian markets.
The minister further added that the initiative would energize economic activities in Gwadar, positioning the port as a new commercial hub in the region. He expressed confidence that the project would strengthen economic cooperation between Pakistan and Oman.
