ISLAMABAD – After successful negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Torkham witnessed across the border movements after a gap of 11 days.

Key trade crossing between the neighboring countries was closed down after Pakistan imposed tighter controls requiring drivers from both sides to have visas and passports.

Tension escalated in recent months as Pakistan accused Afghanistan of failure to root out militants staging attacks from their soil.

More than 1,500 civilians, security forces and militants were killed during the last year.

Islamabad accused involvement of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in most of the terror attacks and desired Kabul to adopt a tough stance against the banned outfit.

Though, Afghanistan rejected these allegations.

As per the officials, drivers from both the countries can cross the border without a visa and passport till March 31.

From April 1, valid visa and travel documents will be mandatory.

As per media reports, more than 500,000 Afghans fled in the four months since Pakistan ordered 1.7 million illegal refugees to leave the country.
