The Convenor of federation of Pakistan chamber of commerce & Industries (FPCCI) for Pak-Afghan trade and central Asia has said that soon trade with Afghanistan will be improved via Torkham border.
Talking to this scribe, Shahid Shinwari, the convenor of FPCCI for Pak Afghan trade and central Asian countries said that we had several meetings with trade relevant officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad about issues pertaining to boost bilateral and Pak Afghan transit trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan via Torkham border.
He said that we had urged and suggested the prime minister of Pakistan and other trade officials in Pakistan to allow Torkham border be opened for five days instead of three days and to allow some 100 trucks cross into Afghanistan via Torkham border.
Ningarhar and some nearby by regions in Afghanistan were mostly depending on vegetables and other food commodities to be exported from Pakistan. Shinwari said and added that we had raised this issue with the concern officials and now the export of food commodities was allowed via Torkham.
He said that officials at Torkham should facilitate 100 export trucks at Torkham border to cross into Afghanistan that the food shortage in Ningarhard come to end.
He said that a notification from interior ministry had also been issued allowing 100 export trucks to cross into Afghanistan via Torkham and Chaman border.
Boosting food items and other goods export to Afghanistan would not only fulfill the need of Afghan people and government but this would put a very positive impact on Pakistan’s economy. Shinwari stated Shinwari said that he had always discussed issues of mutual interests pertaining to enhance Pak Afghan bilateral trade and urged the officials in Pakistan that Afghanistan was a very excellent market for Pakistani export.
