The Punjab Assembly has accorded approval to the Emergency Service (Amendment) Bill 2021 on Tuesday, making Rescue 1122 an independent body.

PML-Q MPA Khadija Umar presented the bill that was approved unanimously. The director-general has got the power of a provincial secretary while emergency officers will be posted to divisions and districts.

A section committee will decide promotion on the basis of performance of 17 years and promotion courses and physical fitness have been made mandatory.

The rescuers will work in BPS-11 and will be eligible for promotion to BPS-12. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said the PML-Q set up this state of the art body and the party has the honour of bringing in the bill for better public service delivery.

He said the law will guard rescuers’ rights and give a boost to their strength. He hoped the rescuers will continue with helping the help-seekers with renewed resolve to come up to the expectations.

The assembly also adopted a resolution to provide free education to children between the five and 16. The resolution raised the demand for the federal government’s due role for the cause.
