LAHORE – More than 2,000 kilograms of expired Wall’s ice cream have been found at a company’s cold store in Lahore during a raid conducted by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA).
The operation was carried out by a PFA team along with Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Price Control and Commodities Management Salma Butt. The cold store was inspected and the expired ice cream was discovered among the products kept at the facility.
Following the discovery, authorities sealed the cold store and imposed a heavy fine.
Sharing details of the action on her official Facebook page, Salma Butt said the inspection demonstrated that food storage facilities could not assume they would escape checks simply because their products were being kept at extremely low temperatures.
She stressed that people of all ages, particularly children, commonly consume ice cream and that food safety must therefore remain a priority.
A video posted on Butt’s official Facebook page showed her accompanying the PFA team as officials entered the cold store and inspected various products stored at the facility.
Butt said ensuring safe food remains a top priority of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and indicated that authorities would continue inspections to protect consumers.
