ISLAMABAD – A contempt of court petition filed by Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been resubmitted to the Supreme Court after the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office were removed.
Uzma Khan had initially filed the petition against the government over the issue of Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital for medical treatment. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Atta Tarar and other officials were named as respondents.
The petition seeks Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for treatment and calls for medical tests to assess his health.
The sources said that the PTI has addressed the objection and filed the petition again before the Supreme Court.
The development comes a day after PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja visited the Supreme Court in connection with the matter. The party leaders had sought an early hearing of the petition concerning Imran Khan’s hospital transfer.
The PTI has maintained that its founder should receive appropriate medical care and has sought judicial intervention regarding his treatment arrangements.
The resubmission of the petition means the case can now proceed through the court’s prescribed process, subject to scrutiny by the Registrar’s Office and any further procedural requirements.
Registrar Office’s objection
The Supreme Court Registrar’s Office has returned a contempt of court petition filed by Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, after raising objections to the application.
According to the sources, the office objected that the petitioner had not provided a specific list of allegations of contempt of court against the respondents.
