Islamabad Rawalpindi Brace For Widespread Monsoon Rains

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a new spell of monsoon rains in several parts of the country from August 27.

The PMD said Islamabad and several other cities are likely to receive thunderstorms and rain from August 27.

The federal capital is expected to remain hot and dry today, with partly cloudy conditions and a maximum temperature of around 35°C.

The temperature in Islamabad is likely to rise to 36°C on August 26, while strong winds are expected to develop in the city from August 27.

Meanwhile, the hot and humid weather continues to prevail in Karachi, where sea breezes have weakened. The temperature is forecast to reach 33°C, with southwesterly winds blowing at around 12 kilometres per hour.

The PMD said Lahore was unlikely to receive rain during the current week, with hot and humid conditions expected to persist.

Earlier, the weather department had issued an alert warning of possible urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several cities of Punjab, as well as landslides in hilly areas due to heavy rainfall.

The residents and tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall and exercise extra caution in hilly and low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, a rain emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi following a week of heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which has caused significant disruption in the city.
