ISLAMABAD – As many as 176 out of 491 tested samples of packaged cooking oil, ghee and milk failed to meet national standards, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Planning.
The ministry said 315 of the 491 samples were found to comply with national quality standards, while around 36 percent were declared substandard.
According to the report, 98 out of 204 samples of vanaspati ghee failed to meet the required standards. Similarly, 40 of 146 blended cooking oil samples and 26 of 104 packaged liquid milk samples were found to be below national standards.
The ministry further reported that eight of 18 powdered milk samples did not meet the standards. Three out of four refined palm oil samples were also declared substandard.
Meanwhile, one of 13 refined canola oil samples failed to meet the national quality standards.
The findings were presented in a laboratory report concerning the quality of packaged edible oil, ghee and milk.
