FM writes letter to OIC Chief on alarming situation in IIOJK
OIC General Secretariat has reiterated the call for the implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a press release issued on Friday, August 5 marks the third anniversary of the illegal and unilateral actions taken in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which were followed by additional unlawful measures including illegal demographic changes.
It said such illegal actions can neither alter the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir nor prejudice the legitimate right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
Recalling the resolutions of the Islamic Summit and Council of Foreign Ministers on Jammu and Kashmir, the General Secretariat reaffirms the OIC s solidarity with the Kashmiri people in the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.
It calls for the respect of their fundamental freedoms and basic human rights and for the reversal of all illegal and unilateral measures taken on or after 5 August 2019.
Meanwhile Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has written a letter to the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the alarming situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir following India’s unilateral and illegal measures in the occupied territory on this day in 2019.
The letter addressed to the OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha briefed him that these measures ensued in additional unlawful actions including illegal demographic changes and grave atrocities including incarceration of Kashmiri leadership, extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions and staged ‘cordon-and-search’ operations.
He noted that India’s actions are in blatant violation of international law, including relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council as well as the OIC resolutions.
Appreciating the consistent and principled position of the OIC in support of the Kashmiris’ just struggle, the Foreign Minister called upon the Muslim Representative Body to lead the diplomatic effort for finding a lasting solution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UNSC and OIC resolutions.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari highlighted the resolution on Kashmir dispute adopted by the 48th Session of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad, this year. He urged the Secretary General to honour the history of countless sacrifices and efforts of the Kashmiri people by taking further steps from the OIC platform to address their humanitarian needs and seek access to the occupied territory for an OIC fact-finding mission.
