The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its deep concern over the military developments and tension that have prevailed in the region for some days, calling for action to stop the escalation and for self-restraint.
It warned about the dangerous implications of any act that could exacerbate tension for the security and stability of the entire region.
It also called on the Security Council to assume its responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security and to avoid growing tension in the region.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the growing spate of daily crimes and organized terrorism committed by gangs of extremist settlers, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, through indiscriminate firing at Palestinian citizens, destruction of property, and the burning of homes, vehicles and agricultural lands in several West Bank villages, leading to dozens of citizens being martyred or injured. The OIC considers this an extension of the open Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
The OIC held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the repercussions of these continued daily crimes and attacks and at the same time demanded of the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibly of providing international protection for the Palestinian people, to ensure immediate and total cessation of this ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for all the crimes committed against the Palestinian people, their land and holy sites.
It called on the international community to work towards settling the perennial issue in the region, notably the Palestinian question, and stopping Israeli aggression on Gaza.—PR
