The residents of Nuristan say that they face serious challenges due to damage on the Nuristan-Kunar highway and asked the government to fulfill their promises in this regard.

They also say that the damage of this highway has also increased the traffic accidents.

“The car was parked here, and flew down, and people were trying to get out from the back,” said Mohammad Salim, a Nuristan resident.

“We ask the government to pave our roads to address our problem,” said Shafiullah, a driver in Nuristan.

According to the residents, due to much damage on the road, they travel a hundred kilometers in six hours. And except for special cars, no other types of vehicles can travel this way.

“The road is too damaged, and in the winter, there is a lot of frost on it and it is not easy to pass,” said Asif Khan, a resident of Noristan.

“Usually, our cars have problems because the road is very bad,” said Ikramullah, a driver in Nuristanږ

“Due to such damage on the road, we cannot take the patients to the doctors,” said Abrar Ulhaq, another driver.

The local authorities say that the reconstruction of this highway has been in the budget of the upcoming financial year and the reconstruction will start soon.

“In the upcoming year, inshallah, this highway will be reconstructed, the Ministry of Public Works has assured us of the reconstruction of this road and said that in the financial year, the construction of this road has been taken from the budget of the Ministry of Finance,” said Faisal, the Deputy Governor of Nosristan.

The construction of the first part of the Kunar-Nuristan highway was started under the previous government, but after political changes in the country, the construction paused and has not been resumed.

Moreover, the officials of the Public Works Department of Paktia said that the reconstruction of sections of the Gardez-Kabul Road that were destroyed due to wars and floods, has started at the cost of 22 million Afghani.

“This road was destroyed as a result of the floods, and this year, the time of its reconstruction has started, and some part of it has been completed, and work is ongoing in some parts and will be completed soon, and the price of the project is 22 million Afghanis,” said Mohammad Rasoul Karimi, an official of the Public Works Department of Paktia.

Some passengers and drivers asked the authorities to pay serious attention to the reconstruction of other parts of the road.

“If the road construction is completed, we will be very happy, our problems will decrease, and we will be relieved,” said Karim, a driver.

“If they construct the road, it will be good for the people, it will be easy for the sick in the vehicles, we are very grateful to you, and may Allah make the Islamic Emirate construct all the roads,” said Mohammad Khan Zadran, a passenger.

We call on officials to pay attention to the road because it’s one of the biggest provinces of the country, and the road is very damaged,” said Sabadar, a resident of Paktia.

Meanwhile, people also called for the reconstruction of the Gardez – Khost and Gardez – Dand Patan roads, which are important roads for exporting and importing goods from Pakistan.—Tolonews
