DESPITE repeated expression of concern by saner elements of the international community over moves posing serious threats to regional peace, India is persisting with its repressive agenda in Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and raising of tension with Pakistan. This aggressive posture neither paid to India in the past and nor it is going to pay in future except destabilization of the region at the cost of progress and prosperity of its people including those of India itself.
India must keep in mind that it cannot dictate its terms or agenda on Pakistan, a nuclear power committed to safeguard its independence and security at all costs. Similarly, India is playing with fire in Occupied Kashmir but there is hardly any wisdom to keep the fire burning knowing well that both people of Kashmir and Pakistan would never compromise on their stand on the issue, which is rooted in principles and fundamental rights. India has used every conceivable tactic in Occupied Kashmir during the last over one year in a bid to crush the voice for freedom but it has miserably failed to do so as Kashmiris are resolved to keep their struggle on till final victory. Be it brutalities against people or attempts aimed at changing demography of the region, nothing would change on ground until and unless India grants right of self-determination to Kashmiris as envisaged in the relevant UN Security Council resolution.
No doubt, the influential members of the global community are not as vocal as they should be over Indian machinations in Occupied Kashmir because of their economic and commercial interests but this would never change the nature of the dispute and India will have to change its policy if it was really interested to march on the road of peace, stability and economic progress and prosperity. It is to be noted that despite total blackout and the world’s longest lockdown in Occupied Kashmir, India could not succeed in camouflaging its atrocities against innocent Kashmiris. This is evident from the fact that for the third time since India imposed a lockdown, United Nations Special Rapporteurs expressed serious concerns over the human rights conditions in the region including extrajudicial killings, imprisonment, torture and abuse by Indian forces. The UN demanded that India conduct an unbiased probe into the atrocities committed against Kashmiris and prosecute those responsible for the killing, torturing and abusing Kashmiris. This is a clear indication that the world is fully abreast of the black deeds of India in Occupied Kashmir and it is a matter of time that the concern is translated into tangible action.
