New York – Zohran Mamdani, who made history by becoming New York City’s first Muslim mayor, delivered his victory speech declaring that the city has no place for Islamophobia and that the election proved “hope is still alive.”
Addressing supporters after his historic win, Mayor-elect Mamdani said, “Today’s election has shown that fear has been defeated and hope has triumphed. We have ended dynastic politics in New York. This city belongs to you, democracy belongs to you, and the future is in our hands.”
Expressing gratitude to New Yorkers, Mamdani thanked taxi drivers, nurses, and the working class for supporting his campaign. “The people of New York have voted for change. We have entered a new era of leadership. I am thankful to over a thousand volunteers who made this victory possible. This city and its democracy belong to you,” he said.
The newly elected mayor pledged to fight for justice and equality, saying, “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to prove myself. We will fight for you because we are one of you. Security and justice will be ensured for everyone—your struggle is our struggle.”
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusivity, Mamdani said, “There is no place for Islamophobia in New York. I am a Muslim and a Democratic Socialist. From January 1, 2026, we will build a city government that benefits all.”
In a lighthearted moment addressing US President Donald Trump, Mamdani said, “Donald Trump, I know you’re watching. I have four words for you — ‘Turn the volume up.’”
He vowed to stand with labor unions in defending workers’ rights, highlighting that immigrants have built and strengthened New York City. “We will end the culture of corruption that allows billionaires like Trump to evade taxes,” he added.
