More than 130 people affected by the utility bills scam at Post Office G-9/4 (Karachi Company) have complained of the indifference of the senior officials of the postal department of Islamabad as four months have passed and they are still waiting for payment of their hard-earned money. This money, around Rs1.6 million in total, was submitted in gas and electricity bills at the post office in April this year and the cashier at the front desk fled with it. The poor consumers came to realize this when they received in next month’s bills heavy fines and the notice for the previous month’s unpaid amount.

The culprit was later nabbed, suspended and in a departmental inquiry confessed having committed the crime and according to the sources, money has also been recovered from him.By the end of May, the post office department as per the set procedure, collected all the record of the affectees along with their mobile phone numbers, account and bank details and conveyed that they would be paid in August. However, the month August which was already harder due to heavy bills passed and none of the affectees was paid. The month of September has also almost half-finished but the postal department is unable to fulfill its commitment.
