ISLAMABAD – An Election Commission high-level investigative committee started probe into the allegations electoral rigging in the general elections, said the sources on Monday.

“The witnessed who appeared before the committee refuted the accusations of former Commissioner,” said the sources.

They said that there had been no pressure on them

The sources said that the statements from five Deputy Commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners were recovered,  and all of them denied the allegations of any kind of pressure and the allegations of rigging levelled by former Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chattha.

The sources said that in the next phase, returning officers would be asked to record their statements.

“ Statements of returning officers from 13 constituencies of the National Assembly in the Rawalpindi Division will be sealed,” they said.

A  special committee, they said, would also halt the statements of returning officers from 26 constituencies of the provincial assembly.

It may be mentioned here that the Election Commission’s special committee had formed TORs yesterday.

The development took place after former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chattha alleged that there was a huge pressure for rigging in the general elections. He admitted his role in the electoral rigging and accused Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chief Election Commissioner for the rigging in the general elections. He also said that he wanted to end his own life after committed this crime but he thought to bring the facts before the nation.
